ASIA WARMS TO NEW COPPER TECHNOLOGY

Durability and Reparability are Crucial in Asian Markets

New York – A new copper joining technology is rapidly gaining acceptance in every corner of Asia. Many Asian companies are testing and evaluating charge air coolers (CACs) and radiators of copper and brass, and several are moving ahead with plans to produce heat exchangers in volume using the new CuproBraze® technology.

New CuproBraze production plants are opening in Japan, Thailand, China and Russia as well as other Asian countries. As the industry gains positive experience with copper and brass, Asian automotive companies can be counted on to respond to the growing demand for CuproBraze products. Several companies plan to begin CuproBraze production in China in 2004 and interest is growing rapidly in India. SHAAZ exhibited its latest CuproBraze products at the most recent Tokyo Motor Show, where representatives of NAJICO from Japan and Radicon from Thailand also exhibited.

As Asia’s highway infrastructure is improved, autos and trucks are playing a key role in bringing prosperity into the interior.  Since many of these vehicles may be used in regions that are hundreds of miles from a major parts warehouse, along rough roads, durability and reparability are especially important. For example, SHAAZ in Shadrinsk, Russia, is supplying CuproBraze radiators and charge air coolers to well-known Russian truck OEMs such as KAMAZ, MAZ and URALAZ.  These trucks are already traveling the back roads in Russian territories throughout Northern and Central Asia.

Over-the-highway and off-road vehicles can better serve these regions when equipped with reliable, repairable radiators and charge air coolers. Vehicle manufacturers in Asia already recognize CuproBraze as one key to increasing the mobility of millions of people, successfully interconnecting the many localities within the vastness of Asia.

The International Copper Association, Ltd. is the leading organization for the promotion of the use of copper worldwide. The Association’s twenty-nine members represent about 80 percent of the world’s refined copper output, and its six associate members are among the world’s largest copper and copper-alloy fabricators. ICA is responsible for guiding policy, strategy and funding of international initiatives and promotional activities. With headquarters in New York City, ICA operates in 28 worldwide locations through a network of regional offices and copper development associations.
